Frequently Asked Questions & Policies
Quick answers to everyday questions and details on how we keep our centre safe, transparent, and well-regulated.
The Basics: Hours & Ages
What are your opening hours?
We are open Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 3:30pm. To support our rural community’s shift patterns and seasonal hours, we don’t force you into rigid full-day blocks鈥攜ou can book from just 1 hour per day.
What ages do you cater for?
Officially, we welcome children from 6 months up to 12 years old. However, please note that due to our cosy available setup inside the primary school, Toybox is best suited and designed for children aged 6 months to 5 years old.
What are your hourly rates?
We keep our rates as low and accessible as possible:
- 馃懚 Ages 0 to 2 Years: 拢6.60 per hour
- 馃 Over 2 Years: 拢6.00 per hour
Daily Life & Communications
How do you keep parents updated throughout the day?
We have a dedicated Toybox WhatsApp group, which we primarily use to send out important, immediate updates like emergency closures. Because we focus our full attention on the children, we don鈥檛 use daily diary apps. However, if your child is ever unwell, upset, or if there is anything you need to know, we will always pick up the phone and call you directly.
Do you provide nappies, wipes, or suncream?
No, parents must supply their own nappies, wipes, and barrier creams if their child is still in nappies. We also ask that you provide a sun hat and pre-apply suncream during the summer months. To keep our hourly rates as low as possible for the community, we ask families to bring these personal care essentials along.
Can my child bring a favourite toy or comfort item?
Absolutely! We highly encourage children to bring along any comfort items, dummies, or favourite blankets from home鈥攅specially if they will be having a nap with us. It plays a huge part in helping them feel safe, secure, and right at home.
What happens if my child is off sick?
To keep our staff-to-child ratios secure and our charity sustainable, the first day of sickness is charged at your normal full rate (as we cannot re-allocate the space at such short notice). Any booked sessions missed after the first consecutive day are charged at half price.
Standards, Regulation & Governance
Our Standards & Quality Care
As a Registered Scottish Charity and a professional childcare provider, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of safety, care, and education.
Who regulates Toybox?
We are fully registered with and regularly inspected by the Care Inspectorate, the independent regulator for care services in Scotland. Our staff are highly experienced and fully qualified (holding SVQ certifications in Playwork, Children鈥檚 Care Learning and Development, and Childhood Practice).
Our Charitable Status
Toybox is a community-run, not-for-profit service registered with OSCR (The Scottish Charity Regulator).
- Scottish Charity Number: SC030007
- Every single penny generated by our fees goes directly back into staffing, resources, and maintaining excellent care standards for local families.
Parent Committee & Getting Involved
Shaping the Future of Toybox
Because we are a community-run charity, we rely entirely on a committee of parents to help set the vision for Toybox. The committee officially acts as the employer, while our manager, Louise, handles the day-to-day operations of the playroom.
How can I get involved?
We always welcome fresh ideas, and joining the committee is a wonderful way to have your say in how Toybox is shaped.
- Share a Skill: Whether you have a knack for fundraising, communication or fun play ideas, your time is highly valued.
- Helping Hands: Our small garden area is always looking for a bit of TLC! If you’d like to help spruce it up, please let the team know.
